People once asked me, “Why you choose to study engineering and become an engineer?”
It took me a while to think and I finally got the answer
I studied engineering is because of society’s perception. Engineers earn a lot.
I realized that they don’t really. down
I’ll take the story back to the year when I got my SPM result. I scored quite good for SPM (7A1s 1A2 1B3), bangga siot….and that time I was lost of which course should I take. My parents told me that engineering is good. So I blindly took up engineering course and voila! after 5 years, I graduated with an honour degree in engineering and I worked as engineer till now.
But come to think about it, after getting much exposure while I was still in the middle of the course, I realised that I don’t like engineering AT ALL and I finished the course for the sake of finishing with a degree.
I remember I told my dad once that it was a mistake for me to take engineering and I should have go for business or management course. He kept quiet and my mum secretly told me to drop the topic because I’ll hurt my dad’s feeling because he worked hard to support my course. I felt ashamed so I never touch the topic ever since.
I feel a lot of you out there are doing things that you all don’t like or don’t even know why you ended up with this job. We are in the same boat.
Anyway, for those who just take their SPM result and thinking what course to take, don’t choose engineering because of the glamour title. It no longer glamour anymore. If you’re in 1970s or 1980s then it’s super glamour. Now there are too many engineers out there already. Make sure you take the course that you like and you interested in.
Ahh…..very bad writing actually, I was dead tired today after work but I have the urge to write about this. I meant to write a better one but..forget it la…you know what I’m trying to say here right?
Anyway, are you one of me?
p/s: Thanks mum and dad for working hard to support me throughout this course. I know when I hurt your heart by saying that I was not suppose to study engineering and it was a mistake for me but in my heart I’m thankful to both of you. I’ll always remember your sacrifice to me. I’ll make good use of your sacrifice.
